Charlotte: Obituary

Mrs Charlotte Williams was born October 8th, 1811, near the city of Baltimore, Maryland, died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs William Oldfield, at Cedar Grove, Ohio, April 26,1887, aged 75 years, 6 months, and 18 days.

Mrs Williams emigrated with her parents, when a small child, to Ohio, and settled in
Muskingum County. She was united in marriage to Gurden Williams, May 13th, 1836, and in 1838 moved with her husband to Hocking County, and were amongst the first settlers on Queer Creek. At 18 years of age she was converted and united with the New School Baptist Church, in New Concord, Ohio.

After she came to Hocking County, she united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cedar
Grove. Sister Williams was eminently pious and led a consistent, Christian life. She always manifested a most liberal spirit for all denominations of Christians; willingly working with them in their meetings and efforts to save sinners and nothing, seemingly, did her more good than to see penitents coming to the altar of prayer seeking salvation from sin.

During her protracted sickness she was cheerful and happy; her confidence and faith in Christ, her Savior was strong and unshaken up to her last moments.

Her husband, who was also a member of the Baptist Church, preceded her to the better
country 17 years.

Mrs. Williams was the mother of seven children; two joined their father in the spirit land some years ago, five remain, with eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, to mourn their loss.

Rev. A. B. Wetherby preached a very appropriate funeral sermon, at Mt. Zion Baptist
Church to a large number of sympathizing friends, from Job 19, 25 and 26.

The bereaved need not mourn as those without hope, they may meet again to part no
more; and our prayer is, that they make choice of and trust in the same Savior, that they may all enjoy the same reward. Rev. A. Harrison

5. Lucy Williams born 9 Dec 1848, Cedar Grove, Benton Township, Hocking Co. ,Ohio,
married 18 Mar 1869, in Hocking Co., Ohio, John H. Hone, born Cedar Grove, Hocking
Co. Ohio ????. Lucy died 14 Jan 1911, Cedar Grove, Benton Township, Hocking Co., Ohio, buried: Vermillion Cemetery. ???ry 19, 1911

Mrs John Hone Died Saturday.

"This woman was full of good works and alms deeds which she did. And it came to pass in those days that she was sick and died."

Thus St. Luke summarily condensed the life story of Dorcas, the mother of Christian
beneficence.

But what was said of the humble disciples of Joppa my be truly spoken of the late Mrs
John Hone, of Vermillion, Kansas.

Lucy Williams was born down in old Hocking County, Ohio, December 9th, 1848. She
came of good Christian parentage and hence we are not surprised to learn of her
conversion in one of those old time revivals of 1867. Hers was a bright Christian
experience, one that never lost its glow but became more beautiful with the years. Trials and sorrows and heartaches only acted like the grinding of the diamond, to make her character more lovely.

Soon after her conversion she united with the St. John's Protestant Methodist church of Cedar Grove, Ohio.

March 18, 1869 she was happily married to Mr. John H. Hone, also of Cedar Grove. In
October 1871 this young couple moved to the old home place south of town. Six years
ago they again moved to their present home north of town.

For nearly forty-two years the deceased walked arm in arm with her husband, sharing
mutually with him the responsibilities and hardships of a pioneer life, and enjoying with him the comforts of a well earned rest, until death broke the earthly bonds asunder.

She had no children of her own yet two little ones found shelter and a mother's heart in the person of Mrs. Hone. They are Mr. Albert Marble, now grown to manhood, and Ruth Hone, a girl of twelve. Besides her husband, Mrs Callie Gallant is the sole survivor of the immediate family.

On coming to Kansas Mrs Hone united with the Methodist Episcopal church of this place and has ever been associated with its growth and development. She was never noted for her brilliancy but for her fidelity to God and duty. There is not a department of the church but what will feel her loss. She was faithful in the prayer meetings, always present when possible in the Sunday School, and for years a teacher.

She was an attentive listener to the gospel message and a friend to the preacher under all circumstances. She could be depended upon to do her part either in hard work or giving. She was loving and kind in the home, always patient, always good.

Four months ago she was seized with a malady for which she could find no remedy and the faithful watchers were compelled to stand by helpless while life slowly ebbed away. A few days before she died, she requested that her friends read the 14th chapter of St. John, and left the blessed testimony that she was ready to meet her heavenly Father. She died Saturday morning, January 14, 1911, with her face wreathed in a heavenly smile as if she had been lulled to sleep by the music of the angels. The funeral services were held from the family residence and church, the pastor was assisted by Rev. Hamm, a former pastor and Rev. Canaday of the Presbyterian church. The interment was in the Vermilion Cemetery. -- J. A. McClellan - Pastor in Charge.
