TARLTON POSTMASTER. Cornelius Thomas is dead -- Served through the Civil War. Cornelius Thomas, postmaster at Tarlton, died Saturday at 10 o'clock at his home in that village of infirmities brought on by service in the Civil War. He had been in failing health for 14 years. Mr. Thomas was born in Ross County 72 years ago. He enlisted in the 19th regiment & served through the Civil War. 20 years ago he moved to Tarlton & engaged in the grocery business. He was appointed Postmaster 8 years ago by President McKinley. His wife died 2 years ago & a son, Luther B. Thomas, last February. Mr. Thomas was one of a family of 12 children, & a sister, Mrs. Mary Leist, of Kingston, cared for him in his last illness. He has several half-brothers living; Harvey Thomas of this city; Dr. Thomas, Lancaster, & Harley Thomas, of near Tarlton. The funeral was held from the M.E. church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Miss Lizzie THOMAS died May 2d, at the home of her father, Green Thomas, on S. Canal Street, aged 29 years. A few weeks before her death she made preparation for admission in the home of her saviour. During her last days she often spoke of her interest in the merrits of a loving Redeemer. Many kindred mourn.
