Elizabeth REICHELDERFER was born about 1743. The Adelphi Border News, August 11, 1905, published a short article on the Reichelderfer family. It stated that Elizabeth Reichelderfer was left with friends when her husband John Shumaker was called to arms. One night the slumber of the settlement was broken and they awoke to find fire and tomahawk doing their fiendly work. Elizabeth fled with her infant and sought refuge in the mountains where they spent days of nearly famishing before being rescued. That little babe was the father of Charles Schumaker who heard the story from his grandfather who lived to be 99 years old.
