Noah Woolever and wife of Circleville made a flying trip to Cedar Grove.

Rev. W. W. Gadd and wife, of Ilesboro, went visiting A. L. Sandersons the 13th.

Miss Jennie Woodard of Logan was visiting her parents Saturday and Sunday at Cedar Grove.

The Sabbath school at St. Johns is going on with good success with H. A. Gordon Superintendent.

We wonder what takes Alie Pieukharp's eye at Prospect? Look out boys. It is so reported that Mr. Sherman Oldfield and Miss Jennie Woodard were Married Saturday evening in Logan. - - BUSY BEE.

Adamsville Ohio March 19, 1889

Dear Wife, I will write you a few Lines the date of this leaves me well and hope it may find you the same and the xxxx also. I arrived home safely , walked from Zanesville in 3 1/2 hours was xxxx xxxx It rained here before I got here but did not get wet.

I hope your Stomach is getting better and also your headache when pap comes to town after me write how you are feeling and tell me as near as you can how your are feeling and whether your Medicine is all gone or not and whether it done you any good and also whether you want any more.

I have been dreadfully home sick all day but do not tell him because of xxxx this I have missed you all day.

Tell pap I will be in Logan Saturday the 23. If it does not rain all the time between this and then tell him to come any how I have sold my corn. xxxx the roads in splendid condition and things all right this is all for this time I believe.

By by dear take good care of your self. My love to you + xxxx Sherman Oldfield

OBITUARY: Sherman Oldfield OLDFIELD, Harrison Sherman, 78, retired Monticello farmer, died at 10:15 PM Friday in St Mary's hospital, Decatur, Illinois; born Jan. 15, 1866, in Ohio; his wife preceded him in death; he leaves nine sons and daughter, 19 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, and two sisters; the body will be taken to the Faith funeral home in Monticello; funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral services for Sherman H. Oldfield Jr. will be at 1:30 PM Wednesday in the J. J. Moran & sons Funeral Home where friends may call after noon today. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park. Mr. Oldfield, 54, of 2801 Faries Parkway, died at 3:40 AM yesterday in St. Mary's Hospital after an illness of about three months. He was a machine operator at Wagner Castings Co. and a member of Allied Industrial Workers Local 728. Mr. Oldfield had been a Decatur resident 20 years, coming here from Monticello. He was born in Monticello, Jan. 22, 1908, a son of Sherman H. and Jennie Woodard Oldfield Sr. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Oldfield married Virena Moffett in Monticello, Feb. 24, 1928. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, James and Lyle, Decatur; Roger, Blue Mound; daughters, Mrs. Orvel (Norma) McDaniel, Mrs. Francis (Jennie) McDaniel and Mrs. Richard (Carolyn) Hopkins, of Decatur; Mrs. Thomas (Janet) Durbin, Macon; three brothers, Carl - Gladwater, Texas.; William, Monticello, Dewey, Marion, Ohio; sisters, Mrs. Nellie Krause, Monticello, Mrs. Earl (Hazel) Treat, Sterling; Mrs. Joseph (Esther) Hanczor, Yonkers, New York; Mrs Wayne (Irma) Riley, Monticello and 14 grandchildren. (Hazel) Treat, 203 14th Ave, Sterling, died Tuesday morning in Community General Hospital after an extended illness. Born Jan. 27, 1896 in Piatt County, Illinois. she was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Harrison S. Oldfield. She had resided in Sterling for 26 years and for nine and one half years was employed at Dixon State School, retiring in 1965. Her husband, Cecil Gaskin, preceded March 19, 1944. She was united in marriage to Earl M. Treat, March 24, 1957 at the First Congressional Church in Sterling. Mrs. Treat was a member of the First Congregational Church of Sterling. Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, June Windsor of Sterling and Mrs. Charles (Billie) Wikle of Lincoln, Nebraska; one son, William S. Strouse of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, William Oldfield of Mattoon, and Dewey Oldfield of Marion, Ohio, and two sisters, Mrs Joseph Hanczon, of Yonkers New York, and Mrs Wayne Riley of Monticello, Illinois There are five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. The body was moved to the Melvin Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 PM Thursday. At noon Friday, the body will be taken to the First Congregational Church in Sterling to lie in state until the time of service at 2 PM. The Rev. Loyal M. Wilkinson pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society. Hazel's middle name was taken from her grandmother's name of Ura Hill Woodard, Jennie's mother.

Joel B. Oldfield was born in Hocking County, Ohio, February 10th, 1859 died near Nettleton Missouri October 14 1889. During a revival held in the Pine Grove Church in Ohio, at the age of 15 years he was clearly converted and united with the church. On October 14, 1880, he was married. In April 1885, with his family, he moved to Missouri and settled near Breckenridge. His place at the means of grace was seldom vacant. He was fervent in prayer, and very earnest in church work, as Sunday School Superintendant and leader of his class. He generously contributed of his means for the support of the gospel at home and abroad. Ministers found in him a friend of quick sympathies and broad views. His house was ever a pleasant home for the true friend of his master. His funeral obsequies were held in the Methodist E. Church in this City, which was filled with sympathizing friends. The Pastor preached from the text, "Have the Gates of Death been opened unto thee, or, Hast Thou Seen the Doors of the Shadow of Death?" His remains were laid away in our beautiful cemetery just outside the City of Breckenridge. But his life as a loving husband, a kind and tender father, and a Christian gentlemen of the higher type will long live in this community and in the darkened home of his bereft wife and three dear children.

OBITUARY: Joseph Oldfield was born in the State of Kentucky, August 27,1805, died July 17, 1884, aged 78 years, 10 months and 20 days. In his early youth, he with his parents removed to West Virginia where, at the age of 22 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah McKelfresh. This union was blessed with ten children, five boys and five girls, seven of whom, with his aged wife, survive to mourn their loss. At the age of 28 he was converted and joined the M. E. Church, of which he remained a member until his removal to Ohio; after which he united himself with the New School Baptists at Mt. Zion Church, of which he remained a member unto his death. His Father Oldfield was among the early pioneers of Hocking county, settling in the almost unbroken wilderness of Benton township, near the year of 1840. He labored hard in the clearing up of his farm and the building up of society, the good effects of which has and will be gathered for many days. Cedar Grove, Jan. 5. - The entertainment at Pine Grove, New Years evening was appreciated by all who were present. There was also a tree which contained some valuable presents. A novel wedding took place at 'Squire Devore's. January 1. The parties were Mr. William Woodard of Cedar Grove and Miss Amanda Lytle of Purcell.

Krause In a beautiful ceremony solemnized at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon Dec. 12, in the Methodist church here, Mrs Nellie Allen, became the bride of Arthur O. Krause, formerly of Ottawa. Preceding the appointed hour John Norman, organist, presented a recital of organ music. Mrs Edith Wheeler sang two selections "Always" and "I Love You Truly". Rev. William Bennett, pastor officiated at the double ring ceremony in the presence of 300 relatives and friends. The altar was pretty with white chrysanthemums on both sides and lighted tapers in the Candelabra. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her two sons, Clifford and Kenneth. She wore a street length dress of teal blue crepe with blue feather hat and gloves to match and wore a corsage of white carnations. Attending the bride as matron of honor was Mrs. Howard S. Allen. Howard S. Allen, also a son of the bride, was best man. Ushers were Clark L. Plummer of Bement and Frederick Plunk of Monticello. A reception was held at the bride's home for 40 relatives and friends. The bride's table was beautifully decorated with a two- tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and groom and lighted tapers. Punch and cake were served by Mrs. Calvin Smart of Decatur, Mrs Clark Plummer of Bement, Mrs Frederick Plunk and Miss Thelma Riley of Monticello. The couple left on a short wedding trip, and after their return will make their home in Monticello.
